Up to 200 guests, and it still works at forty
STU 22 holds up to 200 guests standing. That is a real event venue, not a room with a bar in it — but because it is three connected rooms rather than one hall, it does not fail at the bottom of its range the way a large single space does. Open all three for a 200-person launch. Use one for a forty-person press breakfast and the room still feels full. Most venues make you choose a size months in advance and then punish you if the guest list moves.
It is a blank canvas: white walls, blackout capability, professional lighting and a full sound system already in the building, and no house style to work around. You can dress it however the brand requires, or leave it as it is.
The three rooms
| Room | Size | Typical use at an event |
|---|---|---|
| The Cove | 16ft × 16ft seamless white cyclorama, 12ft ceilings | Product display, step-and-repeat, photo moment, projection surface |
| The Blackout | 26ft × 19ft total light seal, 12ft ceilings, haze-friendly | Main room — stage, screening, performance, dancefloor |
| The Portal | Acoustically treated, isolated sound, full DJ setup | DJ, listening room, podcast or interview capture on the night |
The rooms connect, so guests move between them rather than standing in one box for three hours. That is the practical difference between a room hire and an event.
It runs as late as you need
There is no curfew at STU 22. Your event does not have to stop at eleven because the building says so. Most small venues in East London carry a curfew, and the curfew is usually discovered late in the planning — after the date is fixed, the DJ is booked and the guest list is out. Here, a launch can run into the small hours, a listening party does not have to end at its own peak, and the de-rig can happen overnight instead of at 7am the next morning.
Late finishes and overnight running are arranged on request and special rates apply. Tell us the end time you actually want when you enquire, not the one you assume you can have.
What is included
Full venue hire includes all three rooms, the sound system, DJ equipment, professional lighting, a Leica Cine projector and a studio host on the night, plus kitchen access and a private changing room. That matters more than it sounds: most venues in this bracket quote a room rate and then add AV hire, a lighting package and a duty manager on top, which is routinely another £500 to £1,500 before anyone has had a drink. Here it is one number.
The spaces are a blank canvas and can be dressed by your own production team or supplier. Drinks are bring your own bottle and we charge no corkage. Catering, bar staff and security are brought in by you or arranged on request.
| Included in full venue hire | |
|---|---|
| All three connected rooms | Cove, Blackout and Portal |
| Sound system | Across the venue |
| DJ equipment | Full setup in the Portal |
| Professional lighting | Included, not an AV add-on |
| Leica Cine projector | For screenings, visuals and branding |
| Studio host | On site for the duration |
| Kitchen access and private changing room | Included |
| Drinks | Bring your own bottle, free — no corkage, no venue bar markup |
Bring your own drinks, free — we charge no corkage
STU 22 operates on a bring your own bottle basis and there is no corkage fee. You bring the drinks, we charge nothing to serve them. Most London event venues either ban outside alcohol outright or charge corkage at £10 to £15 a bottle — on a 200-guest launch running sixty bottles that is £600 to £900 added to the bill for the privilege of opening your own wine.
You are buying at wholesale or retail prices rather than paying a venue markup, and you keep full control of what is served — which matters when the brand is the drink, or when a sponsor is supplying it. For a launch with a drinks budget this is routinely the single largest saving available anywhere in the event.
One legal point worth knowing, because it catches people out. Serving drinks to guests free of charge needs no licence. Selling alcohol — a cash bar, a ticket price that includes drinks — is a licensable activity, and for that you would need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice from Tower Hamlets. They are inexpensive and straightforward, but they need roughly ten working days' notice, so raise it early if your format needs one.
Catering, bar staff and security are arranged separately and we can point you at suppliers who know the building.
What people hold here
Product and brand launches, press days and press previews, brand activations, album listening parties and playbacks, label showcases, private views and exhibition openings, PR breakfasts, creator and influencer events, screenings, and wrap parties. Because STU 22 is a working photography and music studio the rest of the week, most clients shoot the campaign and host the launch in the same building.
Prices
Full venue hire is £350 per hour with a five-hour minimum, so a standard evening is £1,750. At full capacity that is £8.75 per guest for the night, with all AV and a studio host already in the number.
