Maternity Photoshoot Studio London — Hire from £35/hr
A maternity shoot is one of the few photoshoots people frame, print and keep forever. Which is exactly why the room matters as much as the photographer: comfort, privacy, warmth and light you can trust.
Whether you're a photographer looking for a reliable maternity studio to bring clients to, or a parent-to-be planning your own shoot, here's what to look for — and how our Wapping studio handles it.
The two maternity looks every client asks for
Scroll any maternity board on Pinterest and you'll find the same two families of images.
Bright, airy and timeless. Soft white backgrounds, flowing dresses, natural skin tones. This is infinity cove territory — our 16ft seamless cove gives you that clean, floating look with nowhere for clutter to hide, and professional lighting included so skin looks soft and even, not flashed.
Dramatic silhouettes and low-key portraits. The single rim of light tracing the bump against pure black. This look is genuinely difficult in a daylight studio — and effortless in our blackout studio, where zero ambient light means the only light in the frame is the one you placed.
Having both looks under one roof means one booking covers the whole shot list: airy set first, silhouette set after the outfit change.
Comfort is a technical requirement, not a luxury
At 30+ weeks, the details decide the shoot: a private space with proper room to change (no shared corridors), somewhere warm — silhouettes in a cold room show it in the shoulders, seating between setups, free on-site parking steps from the door so there's no lugging bags from a car park, and flexible hours (we're open 08:00–22:00 daily, because energy at 34 weeks is a morning thing).
STU 22 is a private, self-contained complex in Wapping — you're not sharing the space with another shoot on the other side of a curtain.
For photographers: why maternity clients book you more when you shoot here
Maternity is a referral business. The experience your client has — parking, privacy, warmth, how confident the space made them feel — becomes the story they tell their NCT group. A professional studio from £35/hr is the cheapest client-experience upgrade you can buy, and it photographs better than any living-room setup.
We see the same photographers return monthly with new maternity clients for exactly this reason. Block-book a regular slot and the studio effectively becomes yours.
Planning your session: quick answers
When to shoot? Most photographers recommend weeks 28–34 — bump fully visible, comfort still good. How long to book? Two hours covers both looks with unhurried outfit changes. Partner and kids in the shots? Of course — the cove comfortably fits family setups. What does it cost? Studio hire from £35/hr with lighting included; your photographer's fee is separate (or if you need a recommendation, ask us).
